Vision
The Canmore Folk Music Festival is dedicated to bringing folk music to the residents and visitors of the beautiful Rocky Mountains, in a relaxed community and family oriented environment.  Now heading into its 35th year, it is the largest cultural event held in Canmore.

What’s it all About?
The Canmore Folk Music Festival attracts approximately 14,000 people to Canmore’s Centennial Park over 3 days. It features local and international folk music artists in a beautiful and natural setting, nestled in a bowl-like valley surrounded by the soaring peaks of the Canadian Rockies. The weekend kicks off with Festival Friday, a three-hour concert and street dance. Sunday and Monday daytime festival entertainment includes three workshop stages, where the audience enjoys the never-before-heard fusions of artists and performers from across Canada and around the world. In the evenings, the vibes and energy of main stage performances are the highlight of the weekend. Throughout the weekend festival patrons can buy unique and creative goods from 35 select artisans, and enjoy delicious food from one of a more than a dozen food vendors. Other festival activities include the myriad of free activities in the Family Area, the free Saturday Children’s Concert and the Heritage Day Monday free pancake breakfast.

Target Audience
The Canmore Folk Music Festival draws music lovers from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C. and the northwest U.S. A recent survey shows that the festival is particularly attractive to affluent educated empty nesters of the Alberta and British Columbia area. If you are looking for a way to reach this well off demographic, look no further than the Canmore Folk Festival. Our audience is equally balanced between men and women, with an average age of 50.4 years. Almost half of our audience (49 per cent) is in the 25-54 age group, followed closely by the 45% that are 55 and over. More than 65% of our audience has a university degree, and 80% have at least a college education. The average household income of our festival audience is $98,530, 28% earning $100,000 or more per year.

History
Alberta’s longest running folk festival began in 1978 as a small, one-day event to celebrate the newly proclaimed “Heritage Day” in August. It featured six performers and a handful of local craftsmen, and was held at the old Red Barn in Canmore until 1982 when it moved to Centennial Park. In 1992 it became a two-day festival, and in 2002 a third day was added. The festival has been a great success each year, with attendee growth climbing steadily from 150 people in 1978 to more than 14,000 people in 2010.
