About
Singer-songwriter Jens Einer Sørensen, known as J. Tex, was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Denmark. He began playing instruments at the age of six and was performing professionally across Europe by the early 1990s, particularly in Italy and France.
His sound draws deeply from the mythos of wide-open, “Dustville” America—but make no mistake, J. Tex is an urban cowboy at heart. At 20, he returned to the United States in search of his musical roots, landing first in Nashville, Tennessee, with a guitar in one hand and a paintbrush in the other.
After months of odd jobs, he set out on a long journey through the back roads of the South. Along the way, he found a mentor in the fiery carnival painter and artist known as “The One-Legged Man,” John Heiner. Traveling together, J. Tex learned not only the craft of art but also the rhythm of a life lived on the road.
During long stretches along Interstate 75, he wrote songs, jamming with old-timers and everyday Americans—collecting stories like postcards from a restless, rolling life.
J.Tex is one of the most authentic and compelling voices on the Danish roots, Americana, and country scene. With a distinctive voice and a versatile command of guitar, banjo, harmonica, and fiddle, he creates a raw, honest sound where soul and storytelling take center stage.
Equally at home performing solo or alongside his band, J.Tex has released seven albums and a string of singles, all rooted in musical depth and a commitment to handcrafted quality.
His music is shaped by years on the road, with performances across Denmark, Europe, and the United States. You can hear it in every note—this isn’t polished or predictable, but lived-in, road-worn, and real.
Music with dust on its boots and its heart in the right place.
