A festival favourite for families!

The Little Folkies Area is a vibrant, interactive space designed especially for our youngest festival-goers. With hands-on crafts, games, storytelling, and kid-friendly performances, it’s a hub of creativity and fun throughout the weekend. Whether you're making music, building something brilliant, or just enjoying some shade and a snack, there’s something for every little folky to enjoy.

It’s a cozy, colourful corner of the festival where little ones can play, make, wiggle, giggle, and just be kids.

Drop by, get messy, and let the fun begin!

Children must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult at all times. Please note that alcohol is not permitted in the Little Folkies Area.

Entangled Puppetry

Welcome to the Whimsical World of Entangled Puppetry. Nestled in the incredible natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Entangled Puppetry is husband and wife team Tyler and Tangle McClaron. Taking their inspiration from the natural world, myths, legends and the untamable depths of their own imaginations, Entangled Puppetry creates whimsical performances that will delight and engage all ages.

Alberta Parks

Enthusiastic and talented park interpreters bring nature to life with music, drama and dance each summer. Action, entertainment and natural history information blend in these often wacky but always informative programs.These one-hour, activity-based programs are fun, hands-on learning experiences designed for the whole family.

Mountain Littles Quiet Area

Join us in the Mountain Littles area for parents, babies, and families. Here you will find a private nursing/feeding area, a fully stocked change station, and a safe play area for your little ones.

Canmore Theatre School Presents

Alice in Wonderland - An Adventure In Muchness

"Young Alice begs Old Alice to step back through the looking glass, returning to Wonderland. While  Alice grew and changed, Wonderland changed too, leaving its inhabitants a shell of their former selves. Can she help them find their muchness and maybe find herself along the way? "

Juggling Clowns  

Local clowns, Professors Bouquin and Boffin (Michelle Preston and Peter Nichol), will again be conducting juggling workshops and generally clowning around in the Hijinx Family Area. Join them and learn to amuse yourself while you improve your coordination and balance, all to the beat of some amazing music  

Craft Area  

Join our Festival Crew in the Craft Tent for some fun activities to help get your child’s (and your inner child’s) creative juices flowing. While you are there, make your very own instrument for our kids music jam!

Hula-Hooping

Tessa Mendoza discovered the fun and fitness benefits of modern hoopdance over five years ago and she has been sharing her love of hoops with the Banff/Canmore community ever since. You may see her teaching impromptu hoop lessons in the parks, or at local artisan/farmers markets where she sells her hand-crafted clothing designs and hoops. Her workshop will reveal the secret to keeping that hoop turning on your waist.  

Temporary tattoo station

Join the fun at the Canmore Folk Festival’s with our Temporary Tattoo Station! Kids of all ages can choose from a variety of vibrant, festival-themed designs to decorate their arms and faces. Safe and easy to apply, these temporary tattoos are a perfect way for little ones to express their creativity and get into the festival spirit! Volunteers will be around to assist parents in applying tattoos on their little ones.

Story Time with Papa Rick

Join Papa Rick and family as they read their new children’s book, 'High Jinks From The Big Head Folk Music Festival', part of The Adventures of Kaboose the Rocky Mountain Bear children’s book series. This story is based on a family adventure at the Canmore Folk Music Festival. Papa Rick kicks things off with a group wiggle and drum roll, which everyone joins in on during the story when certain words pop up. After the reading, there’ll be questions, activity pages, a free audiobook bookmark, and tips on creating your own story. Stick around for a book signing and meet-and-greet.

Kids open mic

Bring your handcrafted instruments created in the Hijinx Craft Area and get ready to jam out with local musicians. Whether you’re strumming a homemade guitar or shaking a DIY tambourine, this is your chance to make music and have a blast. Perfect for young musicians of all skill levels, this jam session is all about creativity, collaboration, and, most importantly, fun!
