Building a Greener Folk Fest with the Biosphere Institute

The Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley believes that as a community, we have both the responsibility and the power to create lasting change for our planet. We are a local environmental non-profit dedicated to empowering community leadership, tackling environmental challenges, and fostering human-wildlife coexistence across the Bow Valley.

For the fourth year in a row, we’re proud to partner with the Canmore Folk Music Festival to lead the Green Team and champion waste reduction efforts. By helping folks sort waste into compost, recycling, and garbage, the Green Team has helped divert over 90% of festival waste from the landfill over the past three years!

New This Year: Reusable Cup Pilot!

This year, we're taking it one step further by tackling waste at the source.
Thanks to our partnership with Muuse and generous sponsors (Town of Canmore, Bow Valley Waste Management Commission, Tourism Canmore Kananaskis, and the Rotary Club of Canmore), some beer and cold drinks will be served in reusable cups at no cost to you. Simply return your cup to the orange bins at waste stations so we can wash and reuse them. Every cup returned keeps single-use waste out of the landfill—for up to 100 years!

Want a hot drink? Borrow a stainless steel reusable cup for hot beverages at the Biosphere booth:

  1. Pick up a Muuse cup from the Biosphere booth

  2. Scan it using the Muuse app (free on your phone)

  3. Receive a 50 cent discount at Eclipse for using a Muuse cup (or any reusable)

  4. Return it to any waste station when you're done (follow the instructions to scan the cup as your return it with the QR codes)

Bonus: Take a photo of yourself using a reusable stainless steel cup and tag @biosphere.institute on Instagram to be entered to win a prize!
